Create a user scenario: For example, a mom using voice assistant in her kitchen to help her cook. Now reframe the scenario using one or a combination of these factors:

  • New Environment
  • New Perspective
  • New Embodiment

How would the mom use voice assistant differently in her car, or on the bus? What if it was from a toddler’s perspective? An elderly or visually impaired person? What if voice assistant was a toy or medication bottle? Get weird and playful with it. 🙃

Repeat this process with many different frames informed by qualitative research. You’ll discover:

  • Completely new design ideas
  • Unexpected use cases & design considerations
  • Your team is more empathetic and conscious of a variety of user needs (not just the “ideal”)

Developing a skill to actively reframe scenarios through the lens of diverse users in different environments will 💯 result in a more holistic, empathetic, and innovative design.
